Data Ethics

I completed this subject in Session 1, 2023. It was fascinating and opened a huge can of worms for me with regard to the current dilemma and how freely we all share our data, that is constantly used to market ideas, products and services to us.

From an education perspective every touch-point of the learner’s experience is related to data management – on-boarding, agreement to use platforms, agreements to share personal information, agreement to share images. Our grades become data for staffing, improvements, growth. Ensuring there are bodies like GDPR and regulators like ACCC is important as we enter a period of exponentiation change – with AI writing and painting for us – is this ethical? With monopolies like Google acquiring businesses to attain more data about us.

Whilst I found this subject fascinating it also highlighted the overwhelming aspect of managing data and more importantly managing it ethically.

GDPR consent definition: Consent of the data subject means any freely given, specific, informed and unambiguous indication of the data subject’s wishes by which he or she, by a statement or by a clear affirmative action, signifies agreement to the processing of personal data relating to him or her.
